BLOODSTONES Chapter 2 - IN THE HOUSE THAT PIERRE ROTS

 

In the fog-bound city of Valemire, legends whispered of an arrogant  man named Pierre Von Strom — a gentleman thief and master of impossible heists. And so the stories claimed, Pierre could dissolve into living vapor, slipping through locks, vaults, and walls as though the world itself could not deny him passage.

But Pierre had a secret, he carried an ancient crimson artifact that drank his blood and gave him powers, and in the shadows of Valemire, he was not Pierre Von Strom. He was known as “The Phantom.” A name he wore like a mask, and a crown.

The last heist of his life? He was audacious enough to infiltrate the lair of Grizzen Riddlewind, Archmage of the Ebon Circle, Keeper of the Arc Lantern Emporium, and collector of forbidden relics, whose home was a living fortress of twisted sorcery and mind bending spells.

Pierre’s goal wasn’t to hunt for mere gold and jewels, nor even one of the arcane wonders crammed upon the wizard’s shelves. His prize was far more personal and dangerous. Pierre intended to steal the wizard’s most precious possession: a golden locket belonging to his long-dead beloved. A relic of love, guarded by grief, and made lethal by obsession.

It didn’t take the Archmage very long to find out who was responsible for the theft, and his vengeance came swift and merciless, leaving Pierre’s grand manor a dark and rotting carcass in the heart of Valemire’s most prestigious district. Pierre was able to steal anything he desired — except his own fate.

50 years later...

The surrounding neighborhood of High Water, once vibrant, has since drowned in ruin. Pierre’s manor, lingers as a scar upon the face of Valemire, remains boarded up for years, lifeless, left to decay, and no one dares approach. Not the City Watch, and not even the boldest gangs will cross its threshold. They say the house is cursed. They say those who enter... never come out. They say something terrifying still dwells within that house.

It is written the Bloodstone is still in there, hidden somewhere within that rotting manor. Yet for the right price, someone might just be bold, desperate, or foolish enough to retrieve it.…

Step inside… if you dare.  
Survive the House.
Seek the Bloodstone.
Just don’t expect to leave with your life.

Here are 8 slightly different character sheets for your ShadowDark Crawlers with a nice clean, easy to read style. I will also be hand drawing this character sheet in the near future as well with a more rustic parchment paper look. So keep an eye out for that.

This is a full page design with a Portrait and Character Description added as well to give your Crawler more details. The only difference between the two is in the description. The standard sheet has Hair Color and the Aviani sheet has Feather Color.

The good news is you will find all of the tables for your Crawler's descriptions: Age, Height, Weight, Skin Tone, Hair Color, Eye Color, and Distinguishing Characteristics in my new ShadowDark supplement "CHARACTERISTICS for SHADOWDARK CRAWLERS" which will be release in the next couple days.

BLOODSTONES - THE TOWER

Is a Grim & Perilous ShadowDark Adventure for Crawler Levels 1-2

This adventure was originally written in 1987 for WFRP 1st Edition. Now, it has been proudly adapted for ShadowDark. This adventure serves as the starting point for the Bloodstones campaign, introducing the first two stones (#1 & #2). The location of the remaining ten stones (#3 ~ #12) will follow, each with their own mini-adventure.

Premises:

In the shadowed reaches of history, from a millennium past, there existed an age swallowed by darkness. It was a world ruled by chaos, where the few civilized realms stood as isolated beacons of hope amid a wilderness ravaged by malevolent forces.

During this bleak era, two formidable wizards, masters of their respective magical arts, united their powers. One wielded the fierce energies of battle magic, while the other commanded the secrets of ancient arcane runes. Together, they forged the legendary Bloodstones to fight against the dark forces.

They crafted twelve stones in total, each imbued with a unique and potent enchantment to empower its bearer the ability to fight against the forces of darkness. These precious stones were entrusted to the twelve known civilized realms, each bestowed upon a worthy leader, those who would dare to wield them against evil and chaos.

As time crawled forward, aided from the stones the relentless forces of chaos were pushed back and gradually vanquished, ushering in an era of peace and prosperity. The Bloodstones were passed down through generations from one descendant to another, though not without peril. Some were stolen, while others were seized through bloodshed. Over time, the stones faded into obscurity, lost and forgotten about, their existence fading into a realm of legends.

Until this day, when the ancient book of legends was opened once again...

In a world where ancient magic seeps into every root and river, the beginning of the Bloodstones Campaign Adventure invites Crawlers into an epic tale of loyalty turned to enmity and a struggle for power born of blood and betrayal. This is the story of once two friends — one dedicated to knowledge, the other to the thrill of power — whose quest for forbidden magic unraveled the fabric of their bond and set them on opposing paths.

Now, as the Crawlers step into this story, they find themselves caught between the lingering shadows of the two main characters who dared to uncover the legend and dangerous allure of the Bloodstones. As their journey unfolds, players must decide which path to take, what sacrifices they are willing to make, and ultimately, if power at such a price is worth the blood it demands.

This adventure campaign calls upon the brave, the cunning, or the desperate to seek the Bloodstones, facing the same darkness these stones were crafted to banish. Will you rise to reclaim these lost relics and protect the lands from an age-old evil? Or will their power lead you down the darker paths of ambition? The choice is yours, but the legacy of the Bloodstones and the echoes of the ancient age await those who dare.

A promotional brochure for the forthcoming BLOODSTONES - THE TOWER adventure

A call to all brave and virtuous Crawlers!

I created this promotional brochure to introduce my forthcoming Bloodstones Campaign Adventure. This tri-fold pamphlet provides a concise description for each of the 12 Bloodstones, and a brief tale that tells the legend surrounding these millennia-old artifacts.

In Bloodstones – The Tower, Crawlers are introduced to the first two Bloodstones and the enigmatic characters at the heart of a tangled tale — one seemingly virtuous, the other dark and twisted… or so the adventurers are led to believe. The Crawlers will have to ultimately decide whom to trust and which path to follow in their quest to pursue the long lost Bloodstones.

The remaining 10 Bloodstones will follow The Tower, each with their own mini adventure.

There are two brochures, one dark, and the other a printer friendly version.  I recommend printing the white pamphlet at home and take the dark version to your local printer if you like. As the dark version will eat up all your printers’ ink like a hungry mimic!

* You can print on any paper you like. But I found it works best on either a light card stock or a 30 lb white paper.

** Bloodstones - The Tower adventure will be finished later in November. I’ll have the PDF available on DriveThruRPG as soon as possible, unfortunately the POD books will take about 3-4 weeks after that. DriveThru’s printers are still behind schedule on their hardback books.

COMMONER NAME GENERATOR

GaryCon is over!  Time to get back to the grind for these commoners. Or Roustabouts if you saw Kelsey's newest Arcane Library newsletter.

I was imaging that a commoner's first and last names could be quite different in a fantasy realm. While here on earth during the Dark and Middle Ages we had such names as William Cooper, Oliver Smith, and Mary Shoemaker, etc. 

While in a fantasy world you could easily be named Darden Ravenstone or Wenlina Griffonheart, or simply Clemlock Ironsmith.

GM HANDOUTS (HAWTHORN TOWN MAPS) FOR "WHEN EVIL CAME TO TOWN" ADVENTURE

For those of you who already picked up the adventure I recently published “When Evil Came to Town,” an update fixes a couple of missed typos. All other information in that adventure remains the same.
