I have a gift for my fellow ShadowDark Crawlers... a fantastic new map.
Looong
ago in the year of the pig face orc, the human calendar it was 1995. A
world and map was created for a game that lead to a bitter end, a long story for
another day perhaps. It was a new RPG that was forged out of bonding
friendship but found itself sunken in despair and sank into the filth
and stench of the sewers never to be found again. The map managed to
escape the influence of chaos and hid itself in a closet and long
forgotten about, well, almost, never truly forgotten... those maps were
always on the back on my mind and here we are 30 years later! That's
right 30 YEARS! I dragged that damn old skeleton out of the closet and
threw a new tuxedo on him! LOL!! I got seriously motivated in the last
week and finished drawing the art, inked it, kept about 10 names I
liked, and added all new ones just for ShadowDark. Now we have a wicked,
fun sandbox to play in.
You'll
find Dwarves have two settlements on the map, one in the north at
Orrenfell, and the other in the eastern mountains around Obsidian Lake. I
kind of broke the river rule here, how rivers very rarely naturally
split. We'll just say the Dwarves purposely diverted the river here for
engineering projects. Yes, that's it.
The
mountains that span the continent are called the Razor Edge Mountains,
I'll try to squeeze the name in somewhere, or write it on the side.
The
Elves are in the east, the Halflings are south of the capital, and all
others ancestries are spread around the continent. The west is a wild
place where only the brave adventure, and the fortified city of
Ironhaven is the only safe place to stay.
I
also added "The Tower" onto the map from the first Bloodstones
adventure. You will find it in the middle of the Gravenwald forest. The
city of Valemire from "Bloodstones - In the House That Pierre Rots"
where Pierre's rotting house is located is on the map. You will also
find the town of Hawthorn from my adventure "When Evil Came to Town" is
located in the north-east section. The location for Bloodstones chapter 3
is also on the map as well, but that will remain a secret for now.
There's a town called "No Where" and another one called "Walkenback"
that is tucked back into a mountainous valley, it is controlled by a
thieves guild. Which pretty much goes to say if you enter the town with
pockets full of gold you are "walking back" broke!
The
world map with the continents as we know them are all drawn and named.
Although only one continent was and is fully developed so far. I will
eventually create a hex crawl system for this world, although I probably
won't draw actual hexes on this map, but I will show close ups of the
map for key areas of interest and adventure ideas into a book. I will
continue to develop this farther down the road with more details,
including drawing the rest of the continents.
For
now you guys are fully welcome to develop the areas as you like. Would
love to hear back from anyone who has a great idea or what adventures
you come up with for this world.
ENJOY!
